The
Tangub City Emergency Hospital, which was established on July
19, 1972, was re-named Doņa Maria D. Tan Memorial Hospital by
Parliamentary Law of the Batasang Pambansa No. 98, authored by
then Assemblyman Lilian Neri, on December 27, 1980 in honor of
the benefactor and the benefactor and the venerable mother of
City Mayor Alfonso D. Tan. It started as a twenty-five bed
capacity hospital with eight personnel including the chief of
the hospital, Dr. Elena Veloso Tan. Originally, the hospital was
housed in a private building with a rental of Php 300.00 a
month.
After two
years of operation, the city government successfully acquired a
1.402-hectare hospital site, ideally located along the coast of
Panguil Bay, a five-minute hike from the city hall. The main
buildings were constructed. The first two-story edifice houses
the administration office, the office of the chief, a conference
hall, a supply room, a Medicare office, a dental room, a room
for medical records, a library, a laboratory, a pharmacy and an
out-patient department. The second building houses the different
wards, the nurses' stations, the Medicare wards, the female
surgical wards, the pediatrics wards, the male and female wards,
four private rooms, a nursery, a supply room, X-ray room, the
labor room, the recovery room. Other buildings with the hospital
site include the mess hall, a chapel, the garage, the morgue,
the powerhouse, the pelota court and the canteen. As part of the
celebration of the Sixth City Charter Anniversary the main
building was inaugurated.
In
1975, the bed capacity was increased to fifty and further
increased to seventy-five in 1981, with fifty-four personnel. On
September 12, 1981 the Doņa Maria D. Tan Memorial Hospital
hosted the Alay sa Pangulo program of the Ministry of Health
Region X spearheaded by the Regional Director Jesus Quimno, a
medical team composed of twenty specialists of their respective
fields treated 1,015 patients.
In
1977, the hospital won the National First Prize Award for
"Cleanest and Bonifacio and Don Mariano Marcos of Misamis
Occidental and Tambulig, Molave, Mahayag and Dumingag of
Zamboanga del Sur.
Other
Health Units
There
are two health units in Tangub City, the City Health Unit headed
by Dr. Jesus Abad as City Health Officer and the Rural Health
Unit under Dr. Sinforiano del Castillo stationed at Barangay
Lorenzo 1'an The City Health Unit managed by a doctor, two
nurses, seven midwives and a sanitary inspector, while the Rural
Health Unit is managed by a doctor, a nurse, three midwives, a
sanitary inspector, and a dentist who serves both the City and
Rural Health Units. Full time midwives who handle the maternity
and health cases of the area serve the seven-barangay health
centers in the city. The City and Rural Health Officers give
yearly bacillus calmot guirea vaccination and
diptheria-pertussis titanus immunization to school children and
the rest of citizens within the community of the city of Tangub.
Clinics
The city has three private clinics. On
December 7, 1967, doctors Vicente and Cleofa Villamor originally
established the Villamor Clinic in Barangay Labuyo. However, in
1973, the clinic was transferred to the City Proper because more
patients are found in the poblacion. It has a bed capacity of
fourteen and eight personnel. The clinic has own drugstores, the
Olavides Pharmacy.
Dr.
and Mrs. Dominador Chiong own the St. Vincent Clinic. It was
established in 1962, with a bed capacity of fifteen and managed
by ten personnel. The clinic is located in the heart of the
city, and it has its own pharmacy, the Farmacia Nina.
Dr.
and Mrs. Apolinario Aruelo own the Aruelo General Clinic. It was
established in 1971. It has a bed capacity of fourteen and is
managed by ten personnel. The Clinic has its own drugstore, the
Olavides Pharmacy. All these private clinics are MEDICARE
registered clinics.
