Part I – Profile / Description of the Barangay

 A. Historical Background

Ang Barangay Pangabuan ania mahimutang sa kasadpang bahin sa dakbayan sa Tangub. Malinawong kining maong dapit nga giugmad kanhi sa mga lumad nga Subano. Miadtong sayong bahin sa tuig 1930’s midagsang ang mga tawo nga nagikan sa kabay-an ug Luzon aron sa pagpanimpalad, tungod kay kining maong dapit gidungog man kaayo sa katabunok sa iyang kayutaan ug usab isdaanon kaayo ang iyang kadagatan.

Tungod sa pagdagsang sa mga tawo, nahimong centro sa negosyo kining maong barangay kay nahimo man kining tumoranan sa mga producto sa uma sama sa mais ug humay sanglit dinhi man nagdunggoan ang mga dagkong sakyanan sa Dagat nga gikan sa kabisayaan aron sa pagpngumpra sa mga abot sa uma.

Kining maong dapit gibunyagan sa ngalan nga pangabuan gikan sa naandan nga ngalan nga Panabuan. Kining pulong nga Panabuan.nakuha gikan sa pulong nga Tabo, tungod kay dinhi ning maong dapit magtagbo ang mga katawhan sa nagkalain-laing dapit aron sa pagtumod sa ilang mga producto ug sa pagpamalit na mga panginahanglan sa ilang mga panimalay. Milabay ang mga katuigan, ug niadtong tuig 1933 pinaagi sa Republic Act no. 2370 nahimong rehistrado kining maong dapit nga gibunyagan sa ngalan nga Pangabuan.Ug niadtong panahuna Tenenyente del Barrio pa ang tawag sa labawng tigdumala isip pangulo sa Barangay. Niadtong tuig 1936 natukod ang tunghaang Elementarya nga gidumala sa mga nagtutudlo nga gikan sa kabisay-an.

B. Physiographic Profile

1. Location, Area and Access

Barangay Pangabuan is located along the National Highway in the western part of Tangub City. It is a big Barrio with an area of 232.9073 hectares. It is more or less seven kilometers away from the poblacion of Tangub City. To be taken some 5 minutes ride on the bus due the convenience of the trip on the newly asphalted road to any point in Mindanao, particularly in the province of Misamis Occidental.

2. Climate & Rainfall

From the month of February to April the climate is hot and dry, but all the rest of the year is wet or rainy season, a time for farmers to plant different kinds of crop in their farm. The equal distribution of rainfall gives good harvest to happy and contented farmers. Industrious farmers closely observe the following data as their guides.

3. Physical Topography

            Barangay Pangabuan produces different crops and minerals. 65% of the land area specifically along the seashore is a vast plain of rice field. Fishponds were also cultivated along the swamp that produces shrimps, crabs and bangus. The other 15% of the rolling part of the land are cornfields and coconut plantation that includes the 20% hilly that were planted with mangoes and bananas.

            Purok Number 3 has the largest population equivalent to 456, which is 17.76% of the total barangay population.

            Barangay Pangabuan is thickly populated. The total population is 2,568 who dwell in the area of 232.9073 hectares. The greatest number of population belongs to the children that age 0-10 years old with a total of 693 or 27%. The youth that ages from 11-20 has a total of 611 or 25%. These groups of the populace are mostly schooling in Elementary as well as in the Secondary, only few of them reached in College. Then follows the job seekers that age from 21-25 with a total number of 239 or 9% who are ready and capable to any job. Those that age from 6-5 totaled 237 or 9% are mostly married the few of them are still longing to marry for independence and stability in life. Those aging from 36-45 totalled 233 or 9% belong to the full-grown adults. 202 or 8% are that that ages 55-46 totaled 198 or 8% belongs to the senior citizen group. The last group aging from 66-70 totaled 165 or 6% of the whole populace.

            According to the Civil Statistic Survey in CY-2001 show that 219 male and 225 female are single totaled 454, while married are 492 male and 492 female totaled 984. The number of widow reached a number of 9 male and 7 female, which totaled to 14. Separated individuals counted 10 male to 7 female totaled to 12.

Part II – Situational Analysis

Survival Needs

A. Food and Nutrition

According to the statistic survey, births of new borns are at fewer 2.5 kilos except on few emergency cases. 7% are severely underweight and 15% are moderately underweight children. Pregnant and lactating mothers are provided with iron and iodine supplements. Infants are exclusively breast-fed for 4 months and all deliveries are assisted by midwives and trained personnel.

B. Health

Babies from 0-1 month old are given immunization and all pregnant women are given 2 doses of anti-tetanus. Not more than one diarrhea episode per child below 5 years old and no death occurred due to preventive measures.

C. Water and Sanitation

            Almost 95% of the population availed of the potable water under the level 2 program. 75% availed of the water sealed toilet and the rest still used the anti-polo system. 85% of the households has compost pit and trash cans with blind drainage.

D. Clothing

            Basic clothing to at least 3 sets of external clothes is generally in possession among the constituents and 90% has special clothes for special occasion.

Security Needs

E. Shelter

            75% have owned house and lot while 20% built houses on rented lot and 5% rented lot and 5% rented housing for living. 45% built houses of concrete materials, 50% semi-concrete and 5% made o flight materials to last at least 5 years.

F. Peace and Order and Public Safety

            Few were victims of murder and also few were suffered physical injuries. Neither natural calamity nor victim of insurgency victimized any family members.        

G. Income and Employment

            Head of the families provided their family with income for existence. Professionals both male and female are employed in different offices. There are few family members whom of which age from 18 and above were looking for employment to help their parents.

Enabling Needs

H. Basic Education and Literacy

            Barangay Pangabuan has 2 Day Care Centers that hold regular classes for more or less 60 children starting from age 3-5. Approximately those aging from 6-12 totaled 591,400 or 67.7% of them are recipient of the 10 capable teachers. Those aging 10 years old totaled 350, 65.7% are attending the primary level can read and write and do simple arithmetic. Those that ages 13-16 years old totaled 490, 250.2% are attending the secondary education 24% is left behind.

 

I. People’s Participation

            Pangabuan is a progressive barangay due to the cooperation of the populace. In every contest or undertaking we have participated in, we are always on top due to the literacy program of our government almost qualified voters voted on election.

J. Family Care and Physiological Needs

            Youth at 18 years old and below are not engaged in hazardous occupation. No child below 7 years old is left un-attended. But it could not be denied and controlled that there are few incidents of domestic violence especially among the young ones and the common cause is rivalry in the battle of the hearts.
