Part I – Profile / Description of the Barangay

A. Historical Background

            Barangay Maloro was created under Republic Act 3590 on September 24, 1968. It was named Maloro because long before, there were lots of trees grown in the area thus called Maloro. Such Maloro was categorized as hardwood.

            It was one on the identified barangays to undertake coastal management of the fishery sector program under the Department of Agriculture in Panguil Bay. Long before the implementation of the FAO 166, the major fishing gear used by the fishermen was Sanggab. It was found out that such kind of fishing gear was illegal. The Fisheries Administrative Order 166 was implemented which was the banning of the said destructive fishing gear.

            Barangay Maloro was one of the peaceful barangays in Tangub City. It has a beach resort in which it is operated, maintained and managed by the City Government of Tangub. It also has an educational institution like the Maloro Elementary School, Governor Alfonso D. Tan Memorial College (GADTMC), TLDC, HOSTEL, Conference Hall and Senior Citizen Building.

B. Physiographic Profile

1. Location, Area and Access

Barangay Isidro D. Tan and Barangay Silanga bound Barangay Maloro on the north, in the south by Barangay Migcanaway, on the east by Panguil Bay and on the west the Migcanaway River. It is one of the urban barangays located 800 meters from the city hall. It is composed of 7 puroks with one barangay councilman as district in-charge.

It has a total land area og 82,1068 hectares.

2. Climates and Rainfall

            The barangay has a temperature climate. From the month of May to August it is called a rainy season because during these months the heavy rain occurs. From September to December it has a moderate rainfall. From January to February the rain is seldom. From March to April, the dry season occurs.

3. Physical Topography

            The barangay is basically plain along the coast. Border on its own western fringes is the Migcanaway River, which it becomes waterless during dry season and easily flooded during heavy rain. The portion, which is almost sea level, is along the Bliss Project or Purok Golden Shower and Purok Roses, which is easily flooded during heavy rain especially when the Migcanaway River overflows.

            It is almost 99% plain area in this barangay.

C. Socio-Economic Profile

            For calendar year 1995-1997 it has 316 households and from 1997 to 2001 it increased to 431 households wherein 1,036 are male and 965 were female having an overall total population of 2,432.

            Since 1997-2001 the highest age population is 0-5 years old. It has an average rate of 12.83% and the lowest age population is 56-60 years old, which has an average rate of 2.22% of the total population.

            Regarding the civil status distribution, single has an average rate of 62.54% married, 29.4% widow and 3.37% separated.

4. Dialect spoken at home

            Almost all residence speak Cebuano o Bisaya at home. Some speak English when they are training their kids and those who are in the government employees.

Part II – Situational Analysis

Survival Needs

A. Food and Nutrition

            Dili dako ug abunda ang abot sa yuta sa barangay Maloro tungod kay halos ang yuta ug luna gipang-iya residential man. Wala mahatagi ug pagtagad sa katawhan sa barangay and backyard vegetable production tungod sa problema sa mga binuhi ang mga hayoppan. Adunay potensyal ang barangay alang sa Backyard swine production apan ang kakulang sa kapital dakong hinungdan sa mga lumolopyo. Ang pagkaminus sa abotsa Dagat nga maoy tinubdan sa insaktong protina ug minerals mirisulta sa pagkaos-os sa nutrition sa katawhan ilabina kadtong anaa sa poverty line nga naglangkob sa 30% sa population. Apan ang ayuda sa kagamhanan pinaagi sa BNS nga nagpahigayon ug regular feeding sa mga kabataan nga giisip nga malnourish dako ug gikatbang sa barangay.

B. Health

            Dili dako nga problema sa barangay ang mga masakiton sa pagdangop sa tambalanan tungod sa kaduol niini apan problema sa mga pasyente sa barangay ang mga tambal wala ug dili available sa health center ug ubang poblikong tambalanan. Apan ang mga ginagmay’ng mga problema pag-atiman ug pagtubag ug bitamina ug pagmunitor sa mga buntis sa barangay, paghatag kanila ug iron ug iodine supplements. Ang mga buntis giatiman sa midwife ug ubang hanas sa hilot sakop sa barangay.

C. Water and Sanitation

            Abunda ang barangay sa mainom gikan sa Tangub City Water District apan adunay pagkamahal sa balayronon niini. Problema sa barangay panahon sa brown out kay walay tubig nga mainom, sa adlaw walay tubig usab nga masinati tungod sa kadaghan sa mogamit usab dako nga tinubdan nga makaprovide ug insaktong supply sa daghan ng konsamante sa tubig, 95% nga population adunay water seald nga kasilyas busa dili problema sa barangay ang kasilinganan.

            Ang problema sa barangay panahon sa ting-ulan ilabina ang ubos nga dapit diin masinati niini ang pagkapuno sa mga septic tanks tungod sa pag-awas sa suba.

            Kabahin sa panapot, ang tanang mga tawo sa barangay adunay pinakaubos 3 ka sa sapot nga pangbalay ug aduna usab silay pinakaminos 3 ka parisan nga pangsimba ug pangsuroy. Apan ang 75% nga population adunay kakayahan sa pagpamalit ug sapot matag 5 sa bulan matag tuig.

E. Shelter

            Kadaghanan sa mga residenti adunay kaugalingon nga pinuy-anan. Adunay 6% nga nanimuyo sa sobra sa 6 ka bulan ang gitawag nato nga temporaryong sakop sa barangay. Daghan pa sa mga residente nga adunay balay nga nahimo sa nipa ug kahoy ug kini makita diha sa Purok Vanda ug Purok yellowbush sanglit ang luna iya pa man sa kagamhanan. Adunay 45 ka pamilya nga ibalhinay na sa proyekto sa torismo nga mao ang Lingap sa Mahirap o Gawad kalinga.

F. Peace and Order and Public Safety

            Ang pagdas-ang sa gidiling mga druga nga wala mahatagi ug pagtagad sa mga anaa sa gitugyanang autoridad maoy hulga sa kahusay ug kalinaw sa Barangay ilabina sa mga estudyante nga anaa nagpuyo sa barangay. Ang kakulang proteksyon sa mga Bantay barangay usab ang hinungdan nga dili makahatag ug garantiya sa pagminitar sa kahusay sa barangay. Kawalay kasiguruhan sa kanibuhi diha sa katawhan tungod sa mga individual nga buot mosamok sa katawhan.

H. Basic Education and Literacy

            Tungod sa presinsya sa publiko ug pribadong tulunghaan sama sa Maloro Elem. School, Maloro Kinder garten/Daycare, Couples daycare center ug ang GADTMC maoy dakong hinungdan nga mga ginikan maikag sa pagpangutana sa ilang mga anak. Ubos kaayo ang porsento nga adunay pangidaron sa barangay. Adunay nasinati nga pagtaas sa enrolmant diha sa pre-schooler ug elementarya sulod sa tuig 2001.

I. People’s Participation

            Ang pagtumaw sa mga organisayon ug asosasyon sa brgy. Timaan nga ang katawhan adunay pagpakabana ug molambigit alng sa katilingbanong kaugmaran.

            Ang mga kapunongan sa Barangay mao ang Maloro Multi Purpose Cooperative, association of womens active role for Development (AWARD), managsoon association of maloro ug BLCA, 4 H Club.

J. Family Care and Psychosocial Needs

                        Kasagaran sa mga wala pasagdi sa mga ginikanan walalynanarbaho nga nag-edad ug 18 below. Walay gipasagdan sa mga ginikanan nga nagpangidaron ug pito ka tuig, kasagaran nag-eskwela na ug giatiman sa mga parents.
